spooky!!!!!!! loved it!

Honestly super underrated !! The art style was super super beautiful especially for a pixel game. The OST was slightly goofy but with all honesty I feel like it really complemented the game a lot loll

Thank you so much for your kind words! I always enjoy making games like this! I am working towards making a commercial release later and adding much more in a next itteration of Fear Me!

Thank you for playing!

Heya the mac version doesn't work for me. I'll try on windows later!

Hey thank you so much for letting me know! I will investigate what is causing this bug!

Hey, I like the audio and the fact that it's goofy and the artstyle, lol. I was narrating the story to another friend and it sounds so ridiculous that I liked it. I didn't get the idea behind how the order was formed (I just randomly guessed it in the first try and got my way out).

I want to know, what's with the * symbol on the boy's face in the start? Is it a way to show censorship?

Also, it was pretty fun. I liked playing through it--it was short and sweet, with 1 worm loredumping things to us. I feel like some words were deliberately more childish because it's from a Child's PoV? If that's the case, I lowkey like that detail.

Spoilers from here:

I do want to know some answers for lorebuilding though. Why would they just naturally choose him, and does the dream-boy vers of MC appear there? I think I died from the goofiness than the horror (like when the boy was interrupting the worm basically telling lore and asking "mother, should we really trust a worm") XD</details>

<details>I do want to know what's behind the mask, though. A disintegrated face, perhaps? Also, what happens to the father? I do want to hear his side of things when he realises that his son becomes a prophet of some sort because his son witnessed his mother basically vanishing into thin air.

I got three endings -

1. Suffering Prophet

2. Lazy Prophet (mother stares at the sea, with/out the worm)

3. Family Snack (wrong answer, with/out worm)

Is there any true ending to it?

Thank you so much for enjoying the game and its story! I did make various decisions about the way the characters talked, I wanted to be fun and lighthearted but with a hint of creepiness and horror here and there!

As for the story progression, there was a lot more I had in mind but due to time constraints with the gamejam I had to cut off a lot of the story, so there is a lot more expanding the lore of the world.

One of my objectives was to make the worm a more reoccurring character, so that is in the plans for the update, I am already planning a bigger more expanded story and there are plans for a sequel.

With the main objective of unifying the stories of the FearMe Verse.

I will give you some clues that I'm thinking of answering in later expansions and games.

-Why do they wear masks?

-Who is the shade?

-Who is behind the calling of the prophets?

-What are the prophets supposed to do?

At the same time there are certain things I enjoy leaving a mystery although I know the answers, I'm thinking of maybe adding secret logs so players can access more lore.

Thank you for your support and hope this answers some of your questions!

This was not what I expected, but honestly? I really enjoyed it. There were several moments that were legitimately unsettling, but this was a charming experience all in all!

I am happy to hear it was not what you expected ahhaha! I think a lot of people thought it was going to be pure horror, but my objective was to go for a tim burton kinda feeling, a bit spooky, a bit unsettling, creepy but fun!

Thank you for giving it a go and for the great commentary!

Fun creepy lofi horror game.  I really like the pixel art, and especially the animations (YEET)!  Great job!

And the worm was a cute surprise!

How many endings are there?  I believe I got 4 of them, but I'm curious if I missed any:

.

.

.

.

.

  • "Ugly bug" ending (forgot the name ^^;)
  • FOR THE SHADE (wrong clouds, get eaten)
  • Lazy prophet ending
  • Suffering prophet ending 😢
(+1)

I am so happy you picked up on the lofi hahaha I love that sort of music, relaxing, chill and a bit spooky, I am so happy you enjoyed the YEET hahaha one of my favorite scenes to make lol!

I really hope to use the worm more in the future!

As for your question you are correct there are four official endings as of now! But in the near future I plan to expand on a lot of this and add some more features!

Thank you again for giving it a try! Any recommendations are also most welcomed!

The retro style of this game was so cool! Everything from the limited colour palettes in the graphics to the sound design and "voice bleeps" creates such a strong, cohesive atmosphere, and I really love myself a game where everything fits together.

I didn't know what to expect from the mixture of horror, mystery and quirkiness, but it works! The silly and mundane parts of the world contrast right against the ominous and creepy parts. The Suffering Prophet ending was unexpectedly heartbreaking. Really well-done!!

Also, the worm friend... I low-key want a plushie of it. XD

(+2)

omg Hhaha you know I was talking with a friend of mine about how they wanted a plush of the worm! Man this is such high praise! Thank you so much for your kind comments!

I am so happy you liked the combinations of silliness mixed with horror!

I am going to be working on expanding this universe and adding a bit more to the worm as well!

Even more enjoyable than the first Fear Me. I don't think I have found all the endings yet but I will definitely try to get them all. I love the worm!

(+1)

Thank you so much dungeon! I am so happy you enjoyed this one! I can't wait to keep expanding on this to make it even crazier hahhaa. hopefully I can add a lot more of the worm in the game!

(+1)

I loved the game. I don't know if I got all of the endings though.

(+1)

Your support is always welcomed! I was so happy to see you make a video!

I really enjoyed the game atmosphere and tone! And that silly animation of the kid tossing the worm back to the ocean was hilarious. Some humor is always appreciated in horror.

That scene was one of my favorites to make! I wanted to see If I could make someone smile with it!

Thank you so much for the support and the kind words!

Great Game, loved the music, one track in particular but can't recall the exact moment

Thank you so much for the kind words and support! I will be making the soundtrack available very soon! And will post it on my youtube channel as well!

Hopefully you can find it again!

Amazing game! I love your art style, not only in this game but the rest of your catalogue as well. The monster designs are always so unique and detailed. I had a lot of fun collecting each of the different endings, it definitely makes me want to play through your 'Fear Me' game now!

Great work on the Spooktober jam!

I always love when I see your videos! Your commentary always makes me smile and laugh! I was laughing with you when you saw the part of drop the worm! hahaha!

I am so flattered you enjoyed the design's and I would love to see you play the original Fear Me

You will realize this is a Prequel to Fear me so both stories are connected, and my plans are to continue this saga and expand more of it!

Thanks again for your support!

I love the eerie atmosphere and the lo-fi, retro horror vibes of this game. You've struck a fine balance between normalcy/realism and fantasy/surrealism. The pixelated art and the many animated moments are all so eye-catching and beautifully done. The color palette helps keep the game's overall aesthetic cohesive. I also like the slightly jarring way the narrative transitions from scene to scene.

I very much enjoyed the tone of the writing, which could swing from playful and quirky to creepy and somber. I should mention that my favorite ending has to be the one centered on the mother. I got four endings (LP, SP, FS, YGB), and I'm so curious to know whether there are more!

Lastly, I have to give a special shout-out to the music and sound design, which take the entire project to the next level for me. Overall, this game looks and sounds amazing, and I congratulate the developer on this wonderful accomplishment! I can hardly believe something this incredible was made in a month!

Thank you so much for the high praise!

I am planning on making a small guide so people can get all the endings! I usually don't announce it at first cause I love keeping the secrets for new players, but I understand some might want to experience every ending at their own pace.

I am so happy you loved the music and the sound design! All my music is original and made for the game, the sound effects and such are all mastered and edited even though I do have some stock sounds.

I was happy to have one month but is true it was a race against time! XD

Thanks for all the support! It means the world to me!

You guys get triple the honorary masks! Thank you so much for going for the completionist rout! I am planning on expanding the game and adding a few more creepy encounters >:D

Thank you for the triple masks and looking forward to the future creepy encounters.

Not sure how many endings I got through, but that was rather interesting. The retro feel of this game was fun, as well as the strange storyline.
(+1)

Thank you so much for your kind words! I was offering those different endings would keep it fresh and entertaining! Thank you for ur support!

This feels like a crazy old school early windows/DOS game. I love that!

Did many runs, mostly got the Lazy Prophet ending out of all of them. Did however get whacked the first time, and get the weird mom one too.

I really like the art, it's sketchy yet well crafted! The music is also nice, and the general vibe and colour pallette really acompany it. The camera movements and alike really help keep it dynamic!

Now the lore? That's the main dish here. It's just, so crazy, so good, it makes you want to keep playing to find out more!

(+1)

Oh my! Thank you so much for noticing all those details! I was really hoping with the time I had, I would be able to provide a full experience with the expectation of more.

FearMe: The silent is the prequel to FearMe And I already have intentions of expanding this one, fixing all typos and making extra scenes that had to be cut due to time constraints, there is an entire story I still want to tell in this universe that will continue and expand upon the themes of this one!

So if you enjoy that more things are coming!

Once again! Thanks for the support!

This game is great.
The art, the font, the ui and the story are amazingly done.
Congrats and keep it up!

(+1)

Thank you so much for those kind words! Makes me want to keep pushing forward and creating more experiences like this!

The best example of low-bit retro-horror mind-efferiy I have seen since 'World of Horror'.

Players are praising the graphics and animation, but I think the sound design and music are what really carries the disturbing essence of the game.

And speaking of the graphics, I'm curious. What program was used to drawn them, and what precise retro aesthetic was the dev trying to emulate? CGA? Are there any old titles which inspired 'Fear Me: The Silent' ?

(+1)

Thank you so much for the trying FearMe: The silent!

One of the things that I love the most in making these games is the music and the sound effects!

So, I make it my mission to make the sound one of the most important parts of my games, I make the music and a lot of the sounds in the game, and even with some stock sounds I still try to edit them, so it all fits the narrative and atmosphere.

I try to gamify the experience as well, remembering oldschool game sound ques from the NES such as "The Portopia Serial Murder Case" and even games like Zelda.

Inspirations for game design include things like PC98 games, "Policenauts", "Snatcher", "Milk inside a bag of milk inside a bag of milk"

Anime and mangas that inspired me include some like "Serial Experiments Lain" and most works by "Tsutomu Nihei". They aid me to recall the forbidding and creepy tones as well as the psychological aspects of the story.

I will also include in this list Hayao Miyasaki is collection of work's which are awe inspiring, let's not forget one of my greatest inspirations in horror Tim Burton. His collection of works is a drove of inspiration by using horror more as a medium to communicate ideas.

As for software I utilize to make my projects I mostly use Clipstudio Paint to make the pixel art and animations, for sound editing I use LMMS to make the music and Audacity to do the editing.

Hopefully this answers some of your questions!

Thank you so much guys for your continuous support! seeing your videos is always fun and makes me laugh! Great stuff guys!

It's always a pleasure to support your amazing games and happy to hear your still enjoying the videos we are make for you.

This Visual Novel was such a Halloween treat, it looks amazing, with a unique style and lots of animations that bring the world to life, on top of that you have amazing sound design and the meat of all of it, a very creepy yet funny story that is very enjoyable to experience.

I just recorded one ending but I can see the game has a lot of replayability with a lot of different outcomes and that's something I can always appreciate on jam games.

Keep up the good work!

(+1)

I am so flattered by your words! One of the things I enjoy the most in making these games is putting time into the sounds and music with the hope that I can convey an atmosphere convincing and fun for the player!

(+1)

Ahh, man, this is so visually stunning! I absolutely love the style of it and all the animation stuff :3 It's a real treat for the eyes :D

I only reached 1 ending so far which I won't mention here like I did in the jam comments in case it counts as spoilers x3

Being such a huge horror fan in general, nothing really scares me these days, but this was definitely very creepy!

Overall, a really neat game that I enjoyed!

(+1)

Oh man that is such a high praise! I am so thankful you got to try it out!

And I get what you mean by not being scared now a days! that is why I love stuff like Junji Ito which is creepier or Tim Burton which I always loved!

Yeah :D I mean, just cos I don’t get scared, doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate stuff that’s a bit different and creepy :3 hehe. I’m always looking for the things that are more on the eerie or unnerving side of horror because they hit differently than stuff that’s just all blood and jump scares ^-^

First game from the Jam that I play and i love it so much, I played Absurd! a while ago and I definitely vibe a lot with your style tot. Excellent atmosphere and story-telling :]

(1 edit)

ALSO before I forget, pretty good soundtrack!

Thank you so much Puerchito! I am so happy you enjoy my games that is like the main reason why I make em!

Also thank you for liking the soundtrack! I spent some extra time on it this time and I was hoping it would pay of XD

Super engaging game! I like how dynamic the visuals are, the scenes are always changing and unique, everything is animated and you never get bored, looks like an interactive comicbook! It was a pleasure to get into the surreal atmosphere!

Thank you so much Wandering! Always a pleasure seeing you around, checking your games and enjoying your beautiful music!
